Seeking Happiness In All The Right Places
We all seek happiness. In one form or another, we gruel over the efforts to achieve contentment and bliss in our busy lives. However, through the challenges and regular hustle and bustle of life, we very rarely reflect upon the steps towards our most fundamental goal.
Our fickle missions and checklists filled with societal expectations overshadow the importance of true happiness. The benefits of living beyond the boundaries of modern society can seem pointless in a world filled with things. Cars, clothing, fabulous accessories and stunning designer furnishings are all tempting but when one totally unknown person said, “The most important things in life, aren’t things,” they were totally right.
Happiness is something different for all of us. It could mean something as simple as health and prosperity, finding love and building our own families, living an adventurous, travel-filled existence or finding your place on a sun-drenched beach in paradise. Somehow, however, we veer off track. We relish the stuff. We seek instant gratification through a new TV and prettier dining set. We look for satisfaction in expensive dinners and extravagant week-long vacations. Then we return to our homes, ignoring those around us and perpetually filling our lives with things. We become more and more self involved and less and less evolved.
Things are a distraction. A simple solution that offers a thrill and a taste of happy. It seems, the more things we have the less we notice the people and the more we crave the things. Instead of thinking about the best way to relate to your elderly neighbour or how to create networking potential through new friendships, people focus more and more on looking, feeling, and shopping like a celebrity.
The core of true, deep boundless happiness that allows you to reach your dreams of perching on a sun-drenched beach, are human relationships. Regardless of how you foresee your future of bliss there is one key phrase that should be followed to achieve your own sense of happy: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Treat others the way you want to be treated. You might discover that helping others is far more gratifying and blessed in terms of achieving happiness than you could ever expect. The benefits are both intrinsic and extrinsic and offer the additional perk of networking. Creating meaningful relationships with a variety of people from all walks of life, from all over the world and different fields, expands our minds, our networking capacity, our patience and our hearts.
And of course, those new relationships might mean being introduced to a new travel destination, an affordable beach house, a workout buddy who motivates you or even a potential babysitter to help you and your partner reconnect.
Disregard the things and embrace the people. Live with respect and gratitude. Offer others the same. Act with patience and kindness. Prioritize your happiness, achieve your dreams and offer others the support they need to achieve their own. Your actions will have a surprising effect. Through mutual respect and assistance you will have support from others and others will learn and be supported by you. You will be happier. You will be closer to reaching your goals.
Even in our modern hustle and bustle, we have the capacity to develop our happy through mutually beneficial relationships and all it takes is reaching out and offering others exactly what you desire. You are the youngest that you are ever going to be. Ask yourself if what you are doing today is getting yourself closer to where you want to be tomorrow. Is your happy waiting for you around the next bend?
