DIY Natural Deodorant
Deodorant. The last thing any of us want is to smell like an old sock. After teaching a yoga class, I love offering my students a mini massage with essential oils but the last thing anyone needs is the smell of sweat overpowering the lovely scent of lavender oil. Sadly, the majority of deodorants on the market are riddled with incredibly harmful chemicals.
For some people, it is easy to dismiss the massive amounts of evidence showing serious health risks associated with deodorant ingredients. But one mindless little smear of chemical laden products each day, adds up. So Fresh knows that the alternatives aren't ideal. Expensive non-toxic products or less-than-fresh underarms aren't going to cut it, so we have a solution.
Our vanilla-citrus deodorant is a creamy, delicious smelling alternative that may have you tempted to eat a spoonful. Even if it looks and smells a lot like icing, it isn't, and while all of the ingredients are 100 per cent natural, it won't taste anything like vanilla icing.
Vanilla-Citrus Deodorant Cream
- 1/2 cup Coconut oil
- 1/3 cup Shea butter
- 1/2 cup Baking soda
- 1/3 cup Arrowroot starch
- 20 drops vanilla essential oil + 10 drops grapefruit oil + 5 drops lavender oil (or scents of your choice)
Place Shea butter and coconut oil in a heat-proof mason jar, standing in a pot of water OR use a double boiler. Heat over medium heat until liquefied.
Remove from the heat and add your essential oils.
Slowly add the baking powder and arrowroot starch until smooth. Cool entirely and apply to the underarms as needed.
